Pun & Post is a small, experimental side project — not a polished commercial service. It's real: real payment, real postcards, real mail, real donations. But it's built and run by one person for fun, not a company with a support team. Please read this page with that in mind.
You're paying for a single postcard, printed with a joke you chose and a short note you write, mailed via USPS First Class to an address you provide. Delivery typically takes a few business days after printing, though USPS timing isn't something I can guarantee.
If your postcard never arrives (please give it a couple of weeks past the typical delivery window before assuming this — mail is sometimes just slow), or if the postcard doesn't reasonably match the preview you approved before paying, just email dadjokepostcards@thekeyjar.com to request a refund. I'll handle it case by case and won't make you fight for something reasonable.
Please double-check the recipient's mailing address before you pay. The website doesn't verify what you've entered before printing and sending. If the address doesn't exist, USPS may return the card to me undelivered; if that happens and you email me, I'll try to make it right. But if the address exists and is simply not the one you intended, there's no way for USPS or me to know that, and the card will just be delivered as addressed.
For every postcard sold, $2 is donated to the Jazz Foundation of America, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting jazz and blues musicians. Donations are made periodically (not per individual order) and are paid by The Key Jar LLC, my single-member LLC. (I asked for and got the JFA's OK for all of this.).
Why the Jazz Foundation of America? Because I love everything about them: bringing people of all backgrounds together over a shared American musical heritage at a divisive moment in our history, helping underpaid working and retired jazz and blues musicians in crisis, creating work for musicians, bringing more music to schools and nursing homes. And aren't dadjokes a jazz-like art form? Ok, maybe that's a stretch. But the Foundation has been doing their good work for decades, and as an amateur musician myself, I'll be glad to help in this small way.
In the spirit of this being an experiment in quickly building something real: Pun & Post is stitched together from a few outside services, each handling one piece of the job.
This has been, first and foremost, a project-driven way to get knee-deep in coding with AI and learn by doing something fun. Claude did all the heavy lifting: the architecture, code, build setup, integrations, bug fixes.

I built this to hold onto as little of your information as possible myself. Pun & Post's system has no database, and nothing about your order is stored on its servers. But that doesn't mean nothing is stored anywhere:
— Your payment details and the content of your order (the joke, your note, your name, and the recipient's name and address) are sent to Stripe as part of processing your order. See Stripe's privacy policy for how they handle this information, including how long they retain it.
— The recipient's address and the postcard's content are also sent to Lob to actually print and mail it. See Lob's privacy policy and their data retention policy for exactly how long they keep the recipient's address and other mailpiece data (90 days by default, as of when this was written).
I don't and won't ever sell, share, or use your information for anything beyond fulfilling the order you placed, except as described below, or where required by law.
Don't use this to send anything illegal, threatening, harassing, hateful, or otherwise abusive. The site runs an automated check on your note before checkout to catch obvious cases, but it isn't perfect — it can miss things, and it doesn't (and can't) evaluate a note in light of who it's being sent to. This policy applies regardless of whether my filter happens to catch a given note, and I reserve the right to refuse, cancel, or refund any order for any reason. The automation might occasionally also overcorrect and disallow legit content. Sorry! Please try another wording.
If I'm contacted by law enforcement in connection with an order, I'll cooperate, including by providing whatever order information I have access to (mainly whatever data Stripe has retained).
This is intended for adults. If you're under 18, please have a parent or guardian place the order.
This is a small side project, run without a company or a legal team behind it. It's provided as-is. I'll do my best to make things right if something goes wrong.
